On occasion, the City of Holyoke takes ownership of property typically due to the non-payment of taxes or because of abandonment.  It is in no one’s interest for this to occur but when it does the City works diligently to turn the situation positive by selling the property. When considering a sale, the City considers the qualifications of the buyer, the type of development, the positive impact for the neighborhood and a fair monetary offer.

Over the last year, the City and the Holyoke Redevelopment Authority sold fifteen properties.  The properties sold include residential homes, vacant lots to abutters, the former Lynch School and the sale of land to the Holyoke Housing Authority for the South Holyoke Homes development. Several more property sales are in process including 216 Appleton Street and the former Geriatric Authority property at 45 Lower Westfield Road.
